RIA M&A consultancy Alaris Acquisitions has brought on a business development executive from another sell-side transaction advisory firm.
Alaris said Wednesday it has tapped Tony Leonard as its managing director of business development. Leonard joins from MidCap Advisors, an investment bank focused on middle-market insurance, healthcare, retirement and wealth management businesses. He will originate and execute new transaction work for Alaris.
‘Alaris occupies a unique position in the market, with a reputation built on genuine relationships, boutique discipline and a deep understanding of what RIA owners actually need when they consider a transition,’ Leonard stated. ‘I’m excited to help accelerate that mission and to work alongside a team that truly puts the advisor’s interests first.’
Leonard, based in Orlando,Fla., was a vice president with MidCap beginning in the summer of 2020. Before that, he worked as a managing director with RIA and retirement-focused M&A consultancy Wise Rhino Group.
Earlier in his career, Leonard held roles with SEI Investments, Putnam Investments, New York Life Investment Management and OneAmerica Retirement Services.
Alaris is run by founder and chief executive Allen Darby, who is based in Charlotte, N.C. The company runs a platform that matches RIA sellers with potential buyers based on characteristics like economic needs, primary motivations and cultural fit.
Per its website, Alaris has facilitated RIA sales to acquirers like Carson Group, Modern Wealth Management, Beacon Pointe Advisors and Apollon Wealth Management, among others.
‘Tony’s arrival marks a significant step forward for our team,’ Darby stated. ‘His deep industry relationships, command of RIA market dynamics and proven ability to connect with firm owners make him the ideal partner for our growth ambitions.’
Darby himself has spent more than three decades in the wealth management space. Prior to launching Alaris in 2019, he led outbound M&A activities for early RIA aggregator United Capital Financial Advisers until its sale that year to Goldman Sachs. Before United Capital, Darby ran his own Charlotte-area RIA, Aegis Capital.
